It’s Spring time on the farm… Spring is one of our favourite times of year on the farm, it really starts to come alive with tens of thousands of species of local wildlife emerging from a winter slumber. Throughout the next few months our fields will see many colour changes as they become peppered with different species of wildflowers. Bursts of yellows, whites, purples, and blues slowly bloom within the long swaying grasslands. We are so grateful to share our farm with so much incredible wildlife, being an Organic farm, we see the importance of biodiversity every day, the natural web of balance between species working in unison to support life. THE MACS FARM BRAND REMOVED FROM TESCO STORES: Why we think that this is a step backwards in the farming industry

Unfortunately, it has been brought to our attention by multiple consumers that our beautiful family egg box has disappeared from Tesco stores in the South East. We are so very sad about this and we have since been inundated with questions as to where they have gone. As we have had no confirmation that this has happened or an explanation as to why, sadly we can only presume that they have been taken off the shelves to be replaced with another brand of Organic egg. This will be a generic brand and will be filled with eggs from various farms, including our own. As many of you know, we have had our own brand of Organic Free-Range eggs in Tesco stores for years now, which in an amazing achievement for a family run farm like ours. Re homing our girls – Help us to give our chickens the retirement home they deserve.

January will be a busy but rewarding month on the farm as we are re homing 5,200 of our hardworking girls! Re homing is not normal farming practice and in this industry commercial chickens are not normally kept for any longer than 80 weeks. This is because as the birds get older, the quality of the egg shell sometimes deteriorates. This then can be a risk when going through a rigorous packaging process. However, after they have worked so hard for us and produced thousands of delicious eggs we feel it is only right that we try our best to find them new homes rather than send them to slaughter. As a family, this option best suits us and it is something we want to carry on in to the future. Don’t be afraid to ask where your food and drink is coming from!

Gaining knowledge and being educated is the only way things in the world ever change. It is the same with our food and drink. The more you know about it, the more likely you are to step back and appreciate the product you have in front of you and the journey it has been on to end up there. That is why we dedicate so much of our time to teaching people about farming and food and giving them an opportunity to ask questions and consequently, go onto to make small, positive changes in their shopping behaviours. Farming is changing and we want the public to know how and why. In my books, farming is one of the most important jobs in the whole world, and in this country we are so lucky to have so many amazing producers right on our door step. It is a subject that we hold really closely to our hearts here on the farm and it is so important, now more than ever that we start to fly the flag and make 2018 the year we back British farming! Giving eggs as gifts

Yes you heard us right! We think eggs and in fact all local produce is the perfect gift all year round, but especially over Christmas and New Year.    Whenever we visit friends and family over the festive period and in fact at any time during the rest of the year, we always take our delicious eggs with us to give as a gift. Perhaps somebody is having you over for dinner, perhaps somebody you love isn’t feeling too well or maybe you have a new born baby to celebrate- for any occasion we always try to encourage people to take eggs with them to give a gift that is a little different.
